Activity

The society "has the objective of expanding among its members the practice and use of the Jewish language and literature. The society only supports the development of the basic spiritual and cultural characters, thus no political questions will be adresse

Additional information

The Trakai district director registered the society on April 26, 1927. The first society management was composed of the president, Moshe Berenvald; secretary Shaya Galpern; treasurer, Lipman Yones; and members, Liba, daughter of Iliyonski and Miriam, daughter of Nedel. 1927-1928 the society established a Jewish library. In 1931, the society decided to create a reading room in its hall, which would be open every day from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. In August 25, 1934, the Žiežmariai Jewish library organized a play named "Return from Sibiria" with Gordon as the actor. In 1938, the society`s president was the trader, Motel Adelson; secretary, Eta, daughter of Iliyonski; treasurer, trader, Mashe Shat; member worker, Lipa Kagan; and shoemaker, Chaim Tkach. In 1929 to 1932, the society had 50 members; in 1936, 35 members; in 1938 and 1939, it had 25 members. The society was closed by the Minister of the Interior on August 20, 1940.
